Photo by @BrianSkerry | A group of happy Spotted Dolphins engaged in socializing behavior in the Bahamas. After humans, dolphins have the largest brains in the animal kingdom, relative to body size, but their brains function different than humans. Dolphins keep half of their brain awake while sleeping because they are voluntary breathers and must also remain vigilant for predators. They also see much of their world acoustically using echolocation. For researchers, understanding dolphin lives is a challenge due to finding long-term, predictable populations to study, dealing with weather and being unable to spend long times underwater to observe them. Because of this, dolphins' complex lives remain largely a mystery and understanding the full extent of how these animals live may take a long time.

Photo by @TimLaman | Closeup detail of sea star in Coiba National Park. Central America’s largest uninhabited island, Coiba sits just off the Pacific coast of Panama and has many endemic species of animals and plants. It was a penal colony for almost 100 years until 10 years ago, so it is covered with lush rainforest. I am back again this week focusing on the underwater realm. Stay tuned for new pics! #Coiba, #Panama, @thephotosociety, @natgeocreative.

Photo by @BrianSkerry | The giant tail of a North Atlantic Right Whale, dripping with water as the animal begins a deep dive in Canada’s Bay of Fundy on an autumn afternoon. The North Atlantic Right whale is the most endangered species of whale on the planet, with only about 500 remaining. Their populations have never recovered from the whaling days due to the fact that they are ‘urban whales’ and live along the eastern seaboard of North America where they must contend with industrialization. In 2017, 17 North Atlantic Right Whales died, mostly due to entanglement in fishing gear. Ship strikes kill whales each year as well. Photographed #onassignment for @natgeo.

The Chinese government, bowing to international pressure from environmental groups, stated it would temporarily reinstate a ban on the use of rhino horn and tiger bone. Tiger parts were taken off the approved list of medicines more than two decades ago. Rhino horn has no medicinal value; it's made of keratin, - like our hair or fingernails.
Chinese medicine consists primarily of herbal remedies; a small but very lucrative market exists for rhino horn and tiger bone and parts of other endangered species. Tiger parts are used by the wealthy as status symbols, such as tiger skin furniture or tiger bone wine.
China breeds tigers in farms, a practice that has to stop to save wild tigers. India is the home of the largest population of tigers like the one above, but Indians typically do not use tiger products. Check out @wildlifeprotectionsocietyofindia @eiaenvironment @WildAid @IFAW @africanparksnetwork

We're all on it actually, though some people's may curve a little more than others.
